Our client based in the Portsmouth area is looking to recruit a CNC Operator, Setter, Programmer who has worked on mills or lathes.

The CNC Setter, Operator, Programmer responsible for setting up, programming, operating, CNC machines (Mills or Lathe) to ensure efficient production processes. This role involves importing and creating CNC programs, setting up tools and equipment, and producing precision components according to technical drawings and associated job cards.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • Mechanical Engineering background.
  • Experience in manufacturing components from engineering drawings.

Desirable:

  • Formal engineering training with recognized qualifications, such as B-Tec, HNC, HND, or equivalent.

Experience

Essential:

  • General Mechanical Engineering and CNC experience.
  • Knowledge of machining components using CNC machining centres and/or lathes.

Desirable:

  • Experience in setting and operating CNC machines.
  • Understanding of machine cutting speeds and feeds.
  • Experience of Fanuc, Mazatrol, Heidenhain, controls.
  • Experience working within the ISO9001 framework.

General Aptitude

Essential:

  • Understanding of tolerances and the ability to read and understand engineering drawings.
  • Ability to set, program, and operate CNC machines.

Desirable:

  • Ability to import and convert CAD files to CNC programs.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing.

Special Skills

Essential:

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, obtain first-off inspection, and monitor components as they are produced.
  • Knowledge of work holding, fixtures, and jigs.

Desirable:

  • Ability to improve efficiencies and cycle times through program changes and continual improvement processes.

Personal Attributes

  • Ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Ability to prioritise work with colleagues.
  • Good communication skills.
