World Class Defence Organisation based in Portsmouth is currently looking to recruit a Modem System Hardware Lead Engineer subcontractor on an initial 12 month contract. The role will be a hybrid position of 60% onsite.

Hourly Rate: 75.00 per Hour (Umbrella)

Contract Duration: 12 Months initially and then ongoing thereafter

Modem System Hardware Lead Engineer Job Description:

You will be working as part of the Modem System Product team, based at the Portsmouth site. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading the development of specialised satellite modem hardware for secure and resilient communications links, and will gain hands-on experience in many facets of satellite communications engineering, with the opportunity to deal with challenging situations in a real world conditions.

The main tasks and responsibilities for the role include: user needs capture, requirements analysis and design response at sub-system (chassis) and module (circuit board layout) levels; support through procurement, manufacture and integration phases, both with in-house departments and 3rd party suppliers; acceptance testing (and fault diagnosis) at module and integrated unit levels; environmental qualification testing. The resulting output will include a manufacturing pack that can be handed to a third-party fabrication plant for board manufacture and final assembly.

Applicants should have a broad range of experience with mixed-signal (RF/analogue and digital) electronics design, including:

* Experience in designing to meet Military-level design and test standards (Mil-Std 810) at both circuit board and unit level
* Experience in designing to meet the regulatory environment related to achieving CE/UKCA marks on end products (e.g. RoHS/REACH/EN62368), including the production of evidential documentation.
* Testing and diagnosis of the resulting circuit boards in the final installation.
* Generation of Test documentation (both Design Proving and Production Level) for both individual circuit boards and the integrated unit.

It would be advantageous for the successful candidate to have:

* Familiarity with Aircraft-level design and test standards (DO-254/DO-178/DO-160)
* Generation of schematic design and circuit board layout design for both digital and RF circuit boards in Mentor Graphics.
* Familiarity with Model-Based System Design techniques
* A background knowledge/interest of satellite communication systems/industry or Modem technology
