About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Head of Technology to lead and shape the technical direction of a large-scale digital transformation programme. This role involves defining strategic technology roadmaps, ensuring governance, and embedding best practices in software engineering, data management, and security.

You will oversee the development and implementation of modern, scalable, and secure digital services while ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture principles and industry standards. As a key technical leader, you will work closely with senior stakeholders, delivery teams, and external partners to drive innovation and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Technology Strategy & Governance: Define and drive the technical roadmap, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Solution Design & Implementation: Oversee the development of scalable and secure digital solutions, ensuring compliance with security, quality, and performance standards.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide guidance across multiple teams, embedding best practices and fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted technical advisor, influencing senior leadership and collaborating with external technology partners.
  • Risk & Compliance Management: Ensure all solutions meet security, compliance, and governance requirements, proactively managing technical risks.
  • Through-Life Service Enablement: Lead technology asset management, lifecycle planning, and modernization initiatives to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Best Practice Adoption: Champion modern software engineering, DevSecOps, cloud-native architectures, and automation to improve efficiency and resilience.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Enterprise Architecture & Cloud Technologies: Expertise in designing and implementing cloud-native, scalable software solutions.
  • Technical Leadership: Proven experience leading technology strategy and governance in complex, high-security environments.
  • Software Development & DevSecOps: Knowledge of modern development ecosystems, including Python, TypeScript, React, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and automation tools (GitHub Actions, Tekton).
  • Security & Compliance: Strong understanding of cybersecurity frameworks, IT governance, and regulatory compliance within a highly regulated environment.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to engage with senior leaders and technical teams to align technology initiatives with business objectives.
  • Agile & Digital Transformation: Experience driving agile methodologies, modern software engineering practices, and technical change in large-scale digital programs.

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with SaaS platforms such as Palantir Foundry and Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Experience delivering technology solutions within the defence, public sector, or similarly regulated industries.
  • Expertise in IT-OT integration and complex systems architecture.
