### Job Overview:
My Client is seeking a highly skilled Site Manager with a strong carpentry background to oversee a university development project in Portsmouth. This position requires a leader who is adept at managing site activities, ensuring health and safety compliance, and coordinating with a variety of trades and contractors. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering the project on time, within scope, and to the highest standard of workmanship.

### Key Responsibilities:

- **Project Management**:
Oversee all on-site construction activities, ensuring the project is progressing according to plan and meeting quality standards.

- **Team Supervision**:
Lead, manage, and motivate the site team, including carpenters and subcontractors, ensuring efficient workflow and high morale.

- **Health and Safety Compliance**:
Implement and enforce all health and safety regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for all site personnel.

- **Work Coordination**:
Liaise with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure all construction work aligns with the design specifications.

- **Quality Control**:
Perform regular inspections to ensure high-quality finishes, particularly in carpentry-related aspects of the project, such as woodwork, joinery, and framing.

- **Scheduling & Budget Management**:
Develop and maintain project schedules, ensuring the project is completed on time and within budget.

- **Material Management**:
Oversee procurement of materials, especially carpentry-related items, and monitor usage to avoid delays or wastage.

- **Client Liaison**:
Serve as the primary point of contact for the university and any other key stakeholders, providing updates on progress and addressing any concerns.

- **Problem Solving**:
Identify and resolve any issues that arise during construction, providing effective solutions to keep the project on track.

### Essential Skills & Experience:

- **Carpentry Expertise**:
A strong background in carpentry, with hands-on experience in joinery, woodwork, and finish carpentry.

- **Site Management Experience**:
Previous experience as a site manager or foreman, preferably on large-scale commercial or educational projects.

- **Leadership Abilities**:
Proven ability to manage a team of workers, subcontractors, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.

- **Project Planning**:
Experience in developing and maintaining construction schedules, with the ability to adjust plans when necessary.

- **Health & Safety Knowledge**:
In-depth knowledge of construction site health and safety regulations and best practices.

- **Communication Skills**:
Strong verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with the client, subcontractors, and other project stakeholders.

- **IT Proficiency**:
Familiarity with project management software, spreadsheets, and other digital tools used for tracking project progress.

### Qualifications:

- NVQ Level 6 in Site Management or equivalent.
- SMSTS (Site Management Safety Training Scheme) certification.
- First Aid at Work certification.
- CSCS card
- Carpentry qualifications (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent preferred).
