Brief

This role will provide you with the chance to work on naval platforms at all stages of the product life cycle from early design to build support and commission.

Please note: infrequent (expensed) travel will be required to the North West as part of this role.

The Naval Architecture Department comprises teams specialising weights engineering, stability and hydrostatics, infrastructure support, seamanship and outfit, manoeuvring and control, fluid dynamics, design and development.

What the role of the Naval Architect entails:

Some of the main duties of the Naval Architect will include:

  • Designing the world's most advanced submarine!
  • Using your knowledge of hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, seamanship & outfit, infrastructure or whole boat design to support the largest shipbuilding programmes in the UK
  • Supporting with sea trials, inclining experiments and other commissioning activities for multiple submarine classes
  • Undertaking research and development activities to develop world leading capabilities

What experience you need to be the successful Naval Architect:

Essential:

  • Qualified naval architect with a degree in Ship Science, Marine Technology or similar
  • Experience working in engineering or in postgraduate study
  • Chartered Engineer status with RINA - Principal grade
  • Eligibility for UK SC Clearance - UK Eyes Only

Desirable:

  • Experience of stability or manoeuvring assessments, design or build support
  • Good technical report writing and presentation skills
