Position for a Purchasing Assistant


CJS Portsmouth is the largest cleaning and hygiene distributor across the South Coast based in Portsmouth and we are currently looking for a Purchasing Assistant for our busy office.

The Purchasing Assistantrole is pivotal to the smooth running of the department and its main purpose is to ensure stock meets the needs of the customer. You will be responsible for assisting with all aspects of the procurement process, including sourcing suppliers, negotiating prices, and ensuring timely delivery of goods and services. Your attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and ability to effectively communicate with suppliers will contribute to the efficiency and success of our purchasing operations.


What will the role include:

  • Monitoring stock levels and identifying purchasing needs
  • Issue timely and regular requisitions according to customer supply needs
  • Tracking orders and ensuring timely delivery
  • Update internal Navision system with order details (dates, suppliers, quantities, item code prices)
  • Meeting and negotiating pricing structures with suppliers
  • Researching potential suppliers
  • Evaluate orders from suppliers
  • Follow up with suppliers as needed, to confirm or change orders
  • Liaise with team with regards to purchasing needs

  • An understanding of procurement principles and supply chain procedures
  • Effective communication skills

  • Ability to manage time well and stay organised
  • Proficiency in gathering and processing data
  • Analytical mindset
  • IT skills including MS office (Excel, Word and Outlook)
  • Experience of Navision (the companys back-office system) desirable but not essential as training will be given
