A leading building contractor based near Portsmouth who undertakes industrial and commercial refurbishment, new build and property maintenance projects is searching for a Quantity Surveyor to join the business.

The company was founded in 2012 and since this time has steadily grown into a respected building contractor operating across the South. Due to planned growth, the company is seeking a talented Quantity Surveyor to join the business

The Role of Quantity Surveyor:

The Quantity Surveyor will play a crucial role in managing project costs and ensuring the financial success of construction projects. This individual will work closely with project teams to accurately estimate costs, monitor expenses, and provide cost-saving solutions.

Responsibilities of the Quantity Surveyor:

  • Prepare accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including labour, materials, equipment.
  • Assist in the procurement process by obtaining quotes from suppliers and subcontractors and negotiating.
  • Monitor project costs and expenditures throughout the construction phase to ensure adherence to.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options to optimize project budgets.
  • Prepare and analyse financial reports, including cost reports, cash flow projections, and variation orders.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and other stakeholders to assess project scope.
  • Conduct regular site visits to assess progress, measure quantities, and verify work completed.
  • Evaluate and negotiate claims and change orders with clients, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Maintain accurate records of project costs, contracts, and correspondence.

Requirements of the Quantity Surveyor:

  • Bachelor's degree in quantity surveying, construction management, or related field.
  • Proven experience as a quantity surveyor in the construction industry.
  • Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, building codes, and industry standards.
  • Proficiency in quantity surveying software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills with attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Time management and organizational skills to prioritize workload and meet deadlines.
  • Professional certification (e.g., Chartered Quantity Surveyor) is a plus.
