Health Safety & Wellbeing Manager
To lead and manage all aspects of Health, Safety & Wellbeing for a regional civil engineering contractor on a large project in Portsmouth, taking responsibility for setting standards that are industry-leading and developing, implementing & maintaining those standards. This will include working as an integrated team linking with all sites, client representatives, contract and project management teams and the Board of Directors.

As Health Safety and Wellbeing Manager your role will include but not be limited to the following:

Accountability of role:
- Leading the project to be an exemplar in safety
- Meet the clients Health Safety and Wellbeing requirements as defined in the scope.
- Provide health and safety support and advice to project teams, ensuring health and safety risks, hazards are identified, controlled and compliance with legislation, industry best practice and guidance.
- Engage with teams to communicate health and safety requirements and gain feedback on improvements/ concerns.
- Monitor the adequacy of health and safety controls, including competency checks, document reviews, audits, and site inspections,
- Conduct and review assurance and incident investigations to identify root causes and prevent reoccurrence.
- Provide written competent expert specialist advice and reports to all questions asked on HSW matters from management to employees.

Scope of the Role
- Deliver and monitor performance against the client Safety, Health, Wellbeing objectives & strategy.
- Deliver assurance for the project and complete various inspections and audits.
- Form proactive strong relationships with client & JV partners.
Proactively advise functional areas of the project on all aspects of health and safety, including compliance with applicable legislation and
- industry best practice, liaising with enforcing authorities and professional groups to ensure currency.
- Manage investigations and work with project teams in collaboration to ensure effective root cause analysis and effective implementation of preventative and corrective actions is conducted, reporting statistical information as required.
- Write reports for delivery to the Client, Board & Group HS Manager.
- Support managers with practical guidance and tuition to enable them to monitor compliance in their area of the business.
- Increase health and safety competence of managers and staff in the business through coaching and guidance, highlighting training opportunities to ensure staff remain current and competent with health and safety practices.
- Attend various working forums to promote collaboration and implementing best practice.

Skills&Knowledge
- In depth knowledge & understanding of H&S legislation, best practice & its practical application.
- In depth knowledge of Construction, CDM & temporary works.
- Commercial understanding of business processes.
- Managing people.
- Able to work at high concentration levels, under pressure & maintain quality standards
Experience
- Experience working as a Senior lead/Advisor in a construction environment (Civil Engineering) (Essential)
- Experience of training, mentoring & coaching direct reports. (Essential)
- Strong leadership skills of managing multi-skilled teams, establishing performance expectations & managing compliance. (Essential)
- Experience of MEICA process safety within civil engineering, including HAZOP/ALM. (Desirable)
- Experience of working & collaborating within a JV environment. (Desirable)

Training
- Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma or NVQ Level 6 equivalent (Essential)
- Must hold CMIOSH with 2 years post qualification experience (Essential)
- CSCS card Manager or Academically Qualified (Essential)
- Must posses a full UK driving licence (Essential)
- SEATS Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme (Desirable)
