About the Role:

GSL Education are actively seeking an SEN English Teacher for a placement at a secondary School in Portsmouth. The school is dedicated to creating a nurturing space where students with special needs can thrive. About the Academy:

The school caters to students aged 11-16 who face complex learning challenges, often coupled with conditions like autism, speech and communication disorders, and various medical issues. The environment is one of kindness, support, and consideration, with a focus on helping students build confidence in communication and grow in independence. The school's mission is to equip students with the skills necessary to actively contribute to their community.

As a SEN English Teacher, your responsibilities will be to:

  • Plan and execute engaging and creative lessons for secondary students, tailored to diverse learning needs
  • Demonstrate positive behaviour and serve as a role model for students, effectively managing challenging behaviours when they arise
  • Offer one-to-one or small group support for students with special, facilitating their access to the curriculum
  • Conduct small group interventions to reinforce learning goals effectively
  • Assist in maintaining a positive, inclusive classroom atmosphere and managing behaviours
  • Employ strategies for equitable access to education for students with additional needs

Requirements for the SEN English Teacher role:

  • Proven experience working with studentswith SEN
  • Possess a recognised Teaching qualification in the UK or have relevant experience.
  • Experience teaching English
  • Energetic and patient with strong classroom management skills
  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • A full checkable work history

To work with GSL Education as an SEN English Teacher, you should: 

  • Have the right to work in the UK. 
  • Have an up-to-date CV with two relevant references from within the last 2 years. 
  • Have a DBS registered to the update service or be happy to apply for one with GSL Education
