Hygiene Manager Knowsley

Location: Knowsley
Salary: £33,619 per year + £350 shift allowance per month
Hours: 10 PM 7 AM (Flexibility needed to attend site every Monday negotiable)

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Hygiene Manager to lead our hygiene team, ensuring the highest standards of cleanliness, compliance, and food safety within our facility. This role requires a hands-on leader with a keen eye for detail, strong people management skills, and a deep understanding of hygiene processes in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead all audits including BRC and customer audits, ensuring full compliance.

  • Maintain audit-ready documentation, keeping all paperwork up to date.

  • Oversee compliance with health, safety, quality, and food safety procedures.

  • Ensure adherence to COSHH assessments, risk assessments, and safe systems of work.

  • Manage chemical segregation, storage, ordering, and stock control.

  • Work with suppliers to obtain the most cost-effective hygiene equipment and consumables.

  • Provide chemical training and ensure the professional development of hygiene staff.

  • Ensure efficient washdowns, deep cleaning schedules, and machinery maintenance.

  • Conduct hygiene audits, report non-conformances, and maintain cleaning schedules.

  • Lead the people management of the Hygiene team, including employee relations matters.

  • Develop team competencies to ensure the department operates efficiently.

  • Plan staffing and recruitment, ensuring the team is well-resourced and trained.

  • Train new starters on hygiene procedures and arrange external training when required.

  • Attend management meetings and contribute to site-wide initiatives.

  • Ensure SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and CICs (Cleaning Instruction Cards) are up to date.

  • Investigate out-of-specification results from swabs and implement corrective actions.

Essential Knowledge and Experience:
  • Experience in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.

  • Strong people management skills with the ability to lead, train, and develop a team.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to take direction.

  • Ability to challenge others professionally and constructively.

  • In-depth knowledge of cleaning chemicals, hygiene equipment, and washdown machinery.

  • Understanding of environmental requirements and responsibilities.

  • Experience managing audits (BRC & customer audits) and ensuring compliance.
