About the Company:A well-established and growing accountancy practice in Preston is looking for a External Audit Senior to join their dynamic audit team. The firm offers an exciting opportunity for an ambitious and experienced auditor to work with a varied portfolio of clients across different industries. This role is perfect for someone looking to take on more responsibility in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.

The Role:As an External Audit Senior, you will be responsible for leading audit assignments from start to finish, managing relationships with clients, and providing mentorship to junior team members. You will ensure that audits are executed effectively, in compliance with auditing standards, and delivered within agreed timeframes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing external audit assignments from planning through to completion, including fieldwork and reporting.
  • Conducting risk assessments and identifying key areas of audit focus.
  • Preparing and reviewing audit work papers and financial statements under UK GAAP and IFRS.
  • Liaising directly with clients to gather information and resolve queries during the audit process.
  • Supervising and mentoring junior auditors, providing guidance and feedback on their work.
  • Preparing detailed reports and presenting audit findings to senior management and clients.
  • Managing multiple audit assignments and ensuring deadlines and budgets are adhered to.
  • Staying up to date with changes in audit regulations and accounting standards.
  • Supporting business development activities, including identifying opportunities to offer additional services to clients.

Requirements:

  • ACA/ACCA qualified (or equivalent) with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in external audit within an accountancy practice.
  • Strong knowledge of UK auditing standards and financial reporting frameworks (UK GAAP and IFRS).
  • Proven experience in managing audits from planning to completion.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong client relationships.
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
  • Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff members.
  • Proficiency in audit software and accounting systems, such as CaseWare, Xero, or Sage.
  • A proactive and detail-oriented approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality work.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
