ASD Teaching Assistant Information:

  • For this position you will need to be an experienced Special Educational Needs Teaching Assistant who has worked with young pupils on the Autism spectrum.
  • You will need a strong understanding of the autism spectrum and how to use specific IEP's to provide effective support to this pupil.
  • You will have to be able to keep the pupil focused on their work and be aware of any particular triggers that may cause a behavioural reaction.
  • Should there be a reaction, having a variety of de-escalating techniques to help control the pupil and the situation.
  • Working with SEN pupils has to be a passion, as everyday will propose different obstacles for you to overcome.
  • It can be a very challenging and emotionally testing position, but having resilience and tenacity to persevere will be key in succeeding.
  • Although this is a challenging role, it is hugely rewarding, seeing a pupil progress under your guidance is uplifting and makes all the tough times worthwhile.
