Secondary School Behaviour Mentor - Preston, UK

The Role:

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Behaviour Mentor to join our pastoral team in our secondary school in Preston, UK. You will play a vital role in providing targeted support and guidance to students who may be experiencing behavioural challenges, helping them to develop positive behaviours, improve their engagement with learning, and thrive within our school community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-on-one and small group mentoring to students identified as needing behavioural support.
  • Develop and implement individualised behaviour support plans in collaboration with teachers, pastoral staff, and parents/carers.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with students, acting as a positive role model and providing consistent support.
  • Support students in understanding the impact of their behaviour and developing strategies for self-regulation.
  • Liaise with teachers, year leaders, SENCO, and other relevant staff to ensure a consistent and holistic approach to behaviour management.
  • Maintain accurate records of interventions and student progress.
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of whole-school initiatives to promote positive behaviour.
  • Support students during lessons, break times, and transitions as required.
  • Participate in relevant training and professional development.
  • Adhere to school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection guidelines in the UK.

About You:

  • Experience working with young people in a mentoring, pastoral, or behaviour support role within the UK education system or a similar setting.
  • A strong understanding of the factors that can influence behaviour in secondary school students.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students who may present challenging behaviour.
  • Resilience, patience, and a calm and consistent approach.
  • A genuine passion for supporting the social, emotional, and behavioural development of young people.
  • Good organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.

Desirable:

  • Qualifications or training in behaviour management, counselling, or youth work within the UK.
  • Experience developing and implementing behaviour support plans.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance related to behaviour in UK schools.
  • Experience working with students with SEND and behavioural difficulties.
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour management training.
  • A valid DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate on the update service.

Location: Preston, Lancashire, UK

Contract Type: Full Time / Part Time / Term Time (depending on the role)

Salary: Upwards of £92 a day.

Start Date: September 2025 or sooner.
