Head of HR

We are currently seeking a proactive Head of HR to join a successful and growing manufacturing organisation with c. 400 employees based across their Preston, Leicestershire and Lanarkshire sites. Working from the Preston office with weekly travel to Leicestershire and monthly travel to Southern Scotland, you will need to be able to work on site in Preston and be happy to travel to the other locations.

As the most senior person in HR in the company and a place within the senior management team, this role reports directly to the dynamic Group MD, who has a very forward thinking approach regarding people, development and culture. He will be an inspirational person to work with when developing and implementing new people initiatives which really add value to the organisation.

This exciting opportunity for a Head of HR is to not only drive forward a positive people strategy which adds true value to the organisation through engagement and leading their plans for growth, but also to manage the day to day operational HR and ER within the organisation. So you must be both happy and able to work on both strategic and operational initiatives.

The development of leadership capability and an engaged workforce will be at the heart of this growth along with managing operational HR. This organisation has had significant recent investment and are consistently, designing new and innovative leading-edge methodologies that support growth. To enable that growth HR needs to win hearts and minds so that all employees are truly motivated and feel valued.

To achieve such ambitious goals, the people agenda is focused on three things. Organisation-wide behavioural change; personal growth; and the development of a workplace that inspires people to be the best version of themselves, everyday.

Person Specification:

  • We are looking for a creative thinker who will challenge the norm (diplomatically), identify critical areas for improvement and drive the business forward, adding genuine value.
  • Think pace, influence and high-energy with a genuine passion and understanding for psychology and how people are best motivated and engaged in a work environment.
  • You will be degree educated and preferably CIPD level 5 or 7 qualified.
  • You must be happy to roll up your sleeves and get on with operational HR as well as able to design and implement strategic adding value HR initiatives.
  • Strong employment law knowledge is a must along with in-depth experience in resolving complex ER issues.
  • Add in commercial acumen, with a passion for going beyond your remit you will be able to evidence having added value through the development and implementation of new initiatives.
  • You will have the ability to manage motivate and develop an initial HR team of 2.
  • You will have a solid HR Management background that will enable you to skip across the full spectrum of HR issues, ideally within a manufacturing organisation but certainly have experience within an industrial, blue collar, shop floor private sector organisation.
  • We are looking for candidates who can evidence driving forward positive cultural and behavioural change with an established workforce.
  • You will have superb communication skills and be credible with the gravitas and inner confidence to influence at all levels within an industrial environment.
