The Company: Our client is a respected and widely recognised name in the produce sector, delivering premium quality products to a broad portfolio of clients across the UK.
The Job Role: Reporting directly to the Head of Technical, this hands-on role is pivotal in ensuring best-in-class Technical Governance on site. You'll be responsible for embedding robust systems that uphold Food Safety, Integrity, Quality, and Legality. As a key part of the site leadership team, you'll inspire and lead the technical department, work in close collaboration with production, and drive excellence in food safety and quality performance. You'll also be the main point of contact for Customer Technical teams, ensuring the site operates with a continuous audit-ready mindset and meets all BRC and Customer technical standards.
Location: Lancashire - site-based.
Salary Package: £45,000 - £55,000 (depending on experience) + 28 days holiday including bank holidays + standard pension contribution.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage and develop quality systems to enhance safety, legality, and quality while reducing costs
Approve, manage, and regularly review suppliers to ensure compliance with raw material specifications
Ensure full compliance with food safety legislation, customer Codes of Practice (COP), and industry standards
Maintain and review the HACCP plan, ensuring it's effective and up to date
Investigate customer complaints thoroughly with root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
Lead the BRC preparation team, ensuring the company is always audit-ready
Regularly audit and review factory operations to uphold high standards of food safety, legality, and product integrity
Oversee the technical team's investigation of customer complaints, ensuring timely resolution and training where required
Drive your own development through ongoing training and hands-on experience
Take full responsibility for your own and others' Health & Safety on site
Act as the primary technical contact for customer audits and technical queries
Support the business by undertaking any reasonable additional duties as required

Supplier performance monitored and challenged; action plans implemented for non-conformance
Safe, legal, and high-quality products consistently produced
HACCP system maintained and effective
Prompt and thorough complaint investigations with long-term solutions
Positive audit outcomes with no major non-conformances
Internal audits conducted on time by trained auditors
Food safety culture embedded across the site
Reduction in recurring complaints through root cause analysis and escalation
Active role development and continuous learning
Health & Safety maintained at a high standard
Strong customer relationships based on confidence in the technical team
Candidate Requirements:
Essential:
Previous experience as a Technical Manager within an FMCG environment, ideally in fresh produce
Demonstrable success in leading BRC and customer audits
Experience liaising with B2B clients, retailers, and regulatory bodies
Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
Ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
Organised and decisive with a proactive mindset
Creative problem-solver with commercial awareness
High attention to detail
Proficient in Microsoft Office
Fluent in spoken and written English
Desirable:
Fresh produce industry experience
HACCP Level 4 qualification
Third-party auditing experience
