Job: Project Support Worker
The locations available are Preston, Leyland & Accrington!The service provides community-based support across Lancashire and Greater Manchester to adults and young people aged 14 and above with learning disabilities to empower them to enjoy the same rights and choices as everyone else. They are a forensic service which are a specialist part of mental health services supporting people who have previously committed crimes.The service users they support have a range of needs including mental health, learning disabilities and autism.Services:They rent houses from the council and then sublet these to the services users, so they are very much treated as their own homes.
- They are provided with 24-hour support, shifts at 9am-4pm 4pm-11pm and sleep finishing at 9am next day.
- There is no personal care. It is very much emotional support and encouraging them to get involved in activities – e.g. some of them go to drama classes, part of football teams, do volunteering etc

- Staff go on a 4-week rolling rota, shifts are flexible, so they don’t have to do the same set shifts every week, just as long as they have got enough availability for full time.
- 6 weeks paid annual leave which includes sleepover enhancement
- They have a really good training programme and will put people through NVQs. They can also do additional specialised training.
- Experience required – social care experience is not essential, more interested in people’s values, people who have a sense of humour and are able to sustain boundaries with the service users. Non-judgemental attitude, patience, outgoing in terms of getting involved in activities, ability to plan – lots of things to consider with risk assessments etc.
- You will be given the services users file to read to understand their background which contains a lot of sensitive information for example including things about their childhood, details about their committed crimes which can all be very intense and hard to read. They do have a psychologist who is available for staff to use for instance if they were struggling getting past something etc, they can chat to them about it.
