What you will do:

  • Undertake timely and high-quality assessments of children and families in line with statutory requirements.
  • Respond to referrals, conducting initial screenings and assessments, and make informed decisions on the level of intervention required.
  • Work collaboratively with multi-agency professionals, including health, education, and police, to ensure a holistic approach to child protection and safeguarding.
  • Conduct home visits, interviews, and direct work with children and families to gather information and assess risk.
  • Develop child-centred care plans that promote safety, well-being, and positive outcomes.
  • Prepare reports, case notes, and attend court proceedings where necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, policies, and best practice guidelines.
  • Participate in team meetings, supervision, and continuous professional development.

Person Specification:Essential:

  • A recognised Social Work qualification (Degree/DipSW/CQSW) and current registration with Social Work England.
  • Proven experience in Duty & Assessment, Child Protection, or frontline social work.
  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation, including the Children Act 1989 and Working Together to Safeguard Children.
  •  Excellent assessment, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage a complex caseload effectively.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with children, families, and professionals.
  • Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

Desirable:

  •  Experience working within a local authority setting.
  • Knowledge of Signs of Safety or other recognised social work frameworks.
  • Additional training in safeguarding, risk assessment, or trauma-informed practice.
