We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Sous Chef or Senior CDP with a background in exceptional food catering services to join our business and work at one of our highly prestigious education settings.

Nestled in the heart of West Sussex, this prestigious independent schoolcaters for 320 day pupils as well as120 boarders and staff and includes not only a breakfast, lunch and supper service but also an extensive hospitality service. This operates 7 days a week, term time with summer school

Job Description

We are seeking a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join our culinary team in Pulborough, United Kingdom. As the second-in-command in our kitchen, you will play a crucial role in maintaining our high standards of food quality and kitchen operations.

Shift pattern off 4 working days followed by 4 days off on a rolling basis.

  • Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and ensuring smooth service
  • Prepare and cook dishes according to established recipes and standards, maintaining consistency and quality
  • Manage and organise your designated station, ensuring cleanliness and proper stock levels
  • Collaborate with the Head Chef to develop innovative menu items and improve existing dishes
  • Supervise and mentor junior kitchen staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
  • Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations throughout the kitchen
  • Assist in inventory management, including ordering supplies and minimising waste
  • Participate in quality control measures, tasting dishes and maintaining presentation standards
  • Step in for the Head Chef when necessary, demonstrating leadership and decision-making skills
  • Contribute to the overall efficiency and organisation of the kitchen


Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Sous Chef or in a similar senior kitchen role
  • Culinary degree or equivalent professional training
  • Extensive knowledge of various cooking techniques and cuisines
  • Strong understanding of food safety and sanitation practices
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Outstanding attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities
  • Creativity in menu planning and food presentation
  • Proficiency in kitchen management software
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Physical stamina to stand for extended periods and lift heavy items when required
