This position will lead and deliver hardware technical activities for large-scale programs, applying advanced engineering knowledge and techniques in a multidisciplinary team environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
- Design and develop hardware components and systems tailored for defense simulation applications.
- Generate and maintain hardware requirements for proposed systems.
- Create detailed schematics and packaging designs.
- Select and evaluate appropriate hardware components and materials.
- Perform Finite Element Analysis (FEA), Failure Mode, Effects, and Criticality Analysis (FMECA), and assess Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) of designs.
- Generate Bill of Materials (BOM), Certificates of Design (CoD), and other system documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Systems Engineers and Architects to develop overall system design, technical directives, and programming standards.
Testing and Validation:
- Develop and execute test plans to validate hardware functionality and performance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve hardware issues.
- Conduct environmental and stress testing to ensure reliability and durability under diverse conditions.
- Capture evidence for conformity and acceptance based on hardware requirements.
Integration and Support:
- Integrate hardware components into designated facilities.
- Provide technical support and guidance during system integration and deployment.
- Assist in developing user manuals and in-service support documentation.
Compliance and Standards:
- Adhere to company processes, procedures, and documentation standards.
- Ensure products conform to all relevant safety legislation and standards, and act as signatory on Product Declaration of Conformity.
- Maintain compliance with Health, Safety, and Environmental standards in all operations.
Project Management:
- Participate in project planning and progress reviews.
- Provide accurate time and cost estimates for hardware development tasks.
- Maintain project documentation and monitor progress against milestones.
- Resolve technical problems escalated by team members.
- Identify and manage risks associated with project responsibilities.
About You
Essential:
- Demonstrated experience delivering programs through the engineering lifecycle.
- Knowledge of engineering governance (SOR, PDR, CDR, etc.).
- Proven experience managing the technical elements of projects or programs.
- Skilled in estimating time to completion and managing scope throughout project execution.
- Expertise in hardware requirements generation and management.
- Strong planning, organizational, and coordination skills.
- Ability to obtain or transfer SC clearance (requires five years of UK residency).
- Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally, with occasional weekend work.
Desirable:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or a related field.
- Experience across multiple engineering disciplines and business functions.
- Background in training and simulation.
- Previous experience in defense and security sectors.
- Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD, DOORS, Creo, SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with Lean development methodologies.
