Are you passionate about inclusive education and ready for a fulfilling leadership role?
We are looking for an experienced HLTA to lead a SEN provision within a welcoming mainstream school in Purley. This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference in the lives of young students with special educational needs, focusing on students with ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder) and SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) needs.

About the Role:

In this key role, you will be leading a dedicated team of support staff, managing provision for a small, close-knit group of students. Currently, the SEN provision supports four children with three staff members. You will work closely with our SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator), receiving PPA (Planning, Preparation, and Assessment) time to collaborate effectively on tailored learning plans.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a small team to deliver high-quality, tailored support for students with ASD and SEMH needs.
  • Develop individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with the SENCO and other team members.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where each child can reach their full potential.
  • Engage in regular planning sessions with the SENCO, ensuring alignment on approaches, resources, and outcomes.
  • Support students in a hands-on capacity, adapting materials and methods to meet their unique developmental stages, including those working significantly below age-related expectations.
Ideal Candidate Profile:
  • Experienced HLTA: Proven experience supporting children with ASD and SEMH needs in an educational setting.
  • Strong Leadership Skills: Confident in leading a small team, with the ability to foster teamwork and a supportive environment.
  • Compassionate & Patient: Dedicated to understanding each child's individual needs, with a caring approach toward non-verbal and developmentally delayed students.
  • Collaborative Planner: Enjoys working with the SENCO and other educators to design and implement effective learning strategies.
  • Creative Problem-Solver: Able to adapt approaches creatively to meet children’s unique challenges and learning levels.
