Finance Manager

We are seeking a Finance Manager to oversee the accounting function of our dynamic retail business. This pivotal role involves managing financial systems, controls, processes, records, and reporting to agreed standards. As a key member of the senior management team, the Finance Manager will work closely with the Directors and report indirectly to the external Finance Director and Financial Controller.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the finance team.
  • Supervise and control data entry into the SAGE Accounting System.
  • Maintain and submit records and returns for VAT compliance.
  • Oversee the company’s purchase ledger, ensuring timely payments to suppliers and ledger maintenance.
  • Process EPOS and stock data into the finance system.
  • Manage the external payroll process, ensuring timely and accurate remuneration and statutory deductions.
  • Produce and analyze the monthly Trial Balance and Management Accounts for external review.
  • Manage the company’s bank accounts and cash flow, including a rolling 26-week tactical cash flow forecast.
  • Collaborate with Directors to project performance and cash positions.
  • Monitor budgets and assist budget holders in understanding their financial performance.
  • Extract and analyze performance and profitability data for management reporting.
  • Liaise with auditors and ensure compliance with all statutory regulations.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified accountant or equivalent experience.
  • Proven experience in commercial decision support.
  • Experience managing small teams.
  • Proficient in Excel and MS Office.
  • Experience with system implementations.
  • Background in retail or high-volume stock management.
  • IT literate with experience in SAGE Line 50 and Xero.
  • Skilled in the preparation of management and financial accounts.
  • Knowledge of goods importation and international payments is advantageous.
