Our client, a dynamic and growing organisation based in Reading, is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to join their senior leadership team. About the Role

As the Financial Controller, you will play a key role in shaping the financial strategy of the organisation. You'll oversee financial operations, provide insightful business guidance, and ensure compliance with UK financial regulations. This role is ideal for someone ready to bring their skills from public practice into a commercial environment where they can drive both operational excellence and strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Financial Management & Reporting
  • Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with UK accounting standards, tax regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Manage cash flow, budgets, forecasts, and key financial performance indicators (KPIs).
  1. Operational Finance Oversight
  • Manage and inspire the finance team, ensuring efficient and accurate financial operations.
  • Implement and maintain robust financial controls, systems, and processes.
  • Oversee payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and treasury functions.
  1. Stakeholder Management
  • Present financial updates to the board and key stakeholders.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Build strong relationships across the business and with external partners to foster transparency and collaboration.
  1. Business Partnering
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to department heads, offering financial guidance and support.
  • Contribute to key business initiatives, such as mergers, acquisitions, and funding strategies.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications & Experience:

  • ACA-qualified (essential), ideally with an audit background in public practice.
  • Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within the UK.
  • Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations, taxation, and compliance requirements.
  • Proven expertise in strategic financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced financial software.
