Financial Controller (Interim / FTC 9 mths)

Location: Maidenhead

Sector: Engineering

Reports to:  Head of Finance

Objective:

Responsible for overseeing the management and control of company finances, working closely with the Head of Finance and international counterparts.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting

  • Supervise the processing of accounting information to ensure accurate and timely monthly management reporting.
  • Ensure seamless transfer of financial data to corporate systems.
  • Oversee the weekly flash and monthly close revenue reporting process, ensuring completion of all closing tasks.
  • Present financial results to the leadership team and in company-wide meetings.
  • Prepare the annual financial accounting pack and tax computations, ensuring full compliance and readiness for year-end audit.
  • Manage company cash flow, overseeing timely collection of customer balances and supplier payments.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team on the annual budget, quarterly forecasts, and long-range planning.
  • Monitor, report, and explain variances between actuals and budget/forecast.

Project Accounting

  • Oversee the project accounting process and regular project reviews.
  • Prepare, submit, and authorise capex requests and expenditure.
  • Manage inventory and WIP processes to ensure financial accuracy.

Compliance & Governance

  • Maintain appropriate financial records and oversee accurate and timely payroll execution.
  • Ensure timely and compliant preparation of quarterly VAT returns.
  • Manage relationships with business insurance and banking service providers.
  • Undertake Company Secretarial duties, including maintaining company records, minuting board meetings, and completing government surveys.

Commercial Insights / Process Improvement

  • Collaborate with operations and mechanical engineering teams to enhance financial accuracy and efficiency.
  • Work closely with sales and marketing teams to ensure competitive and appropriate business pricing.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Recognised accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
  • Minimum of five years of experience in accountancy.
  • Strong knowledge of project costing
  • Experience in long-term project accounting or contract accounting (preferred).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel

Workplace & Travel Requirements:

  • Primarily office-based (Maidenhead), with flexibility for remote working.
  • Occasional travel to customers, suppliers, and other company locations in the UK and overseas.
