Reed Accountancy are seeking an Assistant Accountant to join our client's team on a temporary basis to cover a period of sickness. Our client is based in central Reading just a short walk from Reading train station. This temporary opportunity is a part-time role of around 15-20 hours per week. Our client is open to discussing hybrid working arrangements to commence once the successful Assistant Accountant is settled in the role.

This role is crucial for maintaining the transactional finance functions within the business and requires a candidate who is adept at managing both accounts payable and receivable. The successful candidate will bridge the gap between the day-to-day operations and the outsourced bookkeeping service, ensuring smooth financial processes.

Day-to-day of the role:

  • Manage accounts payable and receivable functions
  • Raise sales invoices and liaise with sales personnel for accuracy
  • Communicate with bookkeeping services regarding outstanding sales invoices
  • Process incoming purchase invoices
  • Conduct payment runs to ensure suppliers are paid promptly
  • Perform reconciliations of ledgers and bank statements
  • Carry out general administration, particularly related to the sales department and processes

Requirements for this part-time Assistant Accountant role:

  • Prior use and good knowledge of the Xero accounting package
  • Process-driven with strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication skills to ensure high-quality interactions with suppliers and customers
  • Ability to work part-time, 15-20 hours total across the week split between Monday, Tuesday, Friday, with additional days if preferred
  • Initially office-based with hybrid working available following a training period
