A highly reputable Defence organisation is seeking an experienced Commercial Programme Director to lead a dynamic team in Aldermaston, delivering a £200m annual investment programme across five key areas.

This 12-month contract offers a hybrid work model, with two days required on-site, and provides the opportunity to make a significant impact on major transformation projects within the defence sector.

You will lead a team of 30 FTEs and report to the Group Commercial Director.

The ideal candidate will bring extensive commercial acumen, leadership experience, and expertise in managing large teams, major transformations, and outsourcing solutions.

This is a leadership role where you will be responsible for driving performance, developing talent, and overseeing complex commercial governance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Business Partnering - Work closely with programme managers to understand business needs and translate them into effective procurement strategies.
  • Commercial Governance - Manage the commercial risk register, chair Infrastructure Commercial Boards, and ensure senior stakeholders are informed on key commercial risks and progress.
  • Supplier Relationship Management - Oversee strategic supplier relationships, ensuring suppliers meet performance outcomes and quality frameworks.
  • Contract Operations - Manage monthly payment applications, fee reviews, and ensure NEC3/NEC4 contracts are adhered to.
  • Contract Change Management - Collaborate with project managers and suppliers to manage contract change events and mitigate risks.
  • Contract Disputes - Address and resolve strategic disputes to protect commercial interests.

Job Requirements:

  • Active SC or DV clearance
  • Sole UK national
  • Strong commercial background, particularly in NEC contracts and infrastructure projects
  • Extensive experience managing large teams and delivering large-scale programmes
  • Strong stakeholder management experience with C-suite presentations
  • Experience in managing complex commercial solutions, transformations, and outsourcing
  • Ability to lead and develop high-performing teams

  • Building Works - Upgrades to existing building fabric and systems
  • Civil Works - New car parks and building extensions
  • Equipment Re-kits - Replacing obsolete equipment and technology
  • Utilities Works - Improvements to electrical, gas, and steam networks
  • Demolition & Decommissioning - Removal of hazardous waste from surplus assets
