­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­We are looking for an inquisitive, mindful and independent Senior Internal Regulator to join the Internal Regulation Surveillance team specifically covering projects. Internal Regulation are responsible for providing relevant, objective and independent assessments of safety performance throughout the organisation to its senior leaders - this varies from plant and corporate level leaders, up to the Executive Board of Directors and our External Regulators. A successful candidate will need to be able interact effectively with all areas of the business and be able to challenge and interact diplomatically and be a great team player.

Location: Our offices based near Reading at RG7 4PR. You will need to be onsite up to 4 days per week. This can be discussed at interview.

Salary Range starts at: £43,930 this is open to upwards negotiation

A typical day for a Senior Internal Regulator could look like this:

  • Leading and conducting Internal Regulation (3rd Line Assurance) activities across AWE's Programmes & Projects, providing constructive challenge, and recognising good performance
  • Delivering timely feedback to stakeholders on assurance activities
  • Gain timely agreement to findings, following-up on issues and actions in collaboration with stakeholders.
  • Provide tactical advice to the business on aspects of project activities
  • Gathering insights and evidence using varying methods i.e. formal inspections, observations, face to face engagements, sampling, desktop reviews etc
  • Collaborating with a diverse group of key stakeholders across various disciplines and reporting levels - including our Executive Members and External Regulators
  • Supporting ongoing development and continuous improvement of project arrangements and ways of working

We would need the Senior Internal Regulator to have:

  • Previous experience of working or regulating within a nuclear or other highly regulated environment
  • Familiar with principals associated with the Three Lines of Defence/Assurance Model
  • Previous experience in conducting assurance activities that review compliance
  • Good understanding of corporate projects and effective management of the.
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills - able to approach and handle situations with an open-mind whilst able to challenge respectfully and tactfully in a calm, approachable, polite manner
  • A high level of professionalism that compliments an effective and productive team environment
  • Flexibility, innovation and creativity with swift response to problem-solving whilst keeping the interests of the team, key stakeholders and the wider AWE team in mind
  • Organisational skills
  • Ability to adapt quickly to both reactive and routine requests
  • Reporting, writing and presentation skills
  • An understanding of process management and approach
  • Knowledge of Risk Assessment and Governance methodologies
  • NEBOSH General Certificate or equivalent (advantageous)
  • Experience of undertaking assurance or governance related activities, investigations and/or Audit (Preferred)
  • Member of IOSH/IEMA/SRP or applicable institution (advantageous)
