In house Tax Manager - Pharma

Reading Berkshire

£75,000 + great package

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Tax Manager to join a rapidly growing pharmaceutical business in a newly created role. As the company expands, it is looking to bring tax responsibilities in-house, moving away from the current reliance on external Big 4 advisory.

This is a broad and hands-on position covering corporate tax, VAT, R&D claims, and compliance reporting across various tax areas. The role will focus on improving tax processes, strengthening the control framework, and ensuring SAO compliance while working closely with senior finance leadership.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Corporate Tax & VAT Compliance: Manage the preparation and filing of corporate tax returns and VAT returns, ensuring timely and accurate submissions.
  • R&D Claims & HMRC Engagement: Oversee R&D tax relief claims and liaise with HMRC on disclosures and inquiries.
  • SAO Compliance & Process Improvement: Develop and enhance tax controls within the Senior Accounting Officer (SAO) framework, making strategic recommendations to improve tax compliance processes.
  • Tax Advisory & Strategy: Work closely with the Group Financial Controller and CFO to identify opportunities for tax efficiencies and risk mitigation.

What We're Looking For:

Strong experience in corporate tax and VAT (either in practice or industry).Understanding of R&D tax relief claims and experience dealing with HMRC inquiries.Ability to develop tax control frameworks and improve compliance processes.ACA / ACCA / CTA qualification preferred.A proactive and commercially minded tax professional who can drive efficiency and add value.
