Consultant Psychiatrist
  • Annual Salary: Up to £180,000 per annum FTE, depending on experience
  • Location: South-East London, 
  • Job Type: Full-time Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm 

We are seeking a Consultant Psychiatrist to join our dedicated healthcare team at HMP Thameside, a category B resettlement prison. This role offers the chance to make a significant impact on the lives of around 1250 patients aged 17 and above, including those in an 18-bed inpatient unit with acute mental health needs. The position involves working closely with a well-established mental health team, with approximately 70% of your time being patient-facing in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Provide high-quality psychiatric care to a diverse patient population within the prison.
  • Conduct assessments, develop treatment plans, and monitor patient progress.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to enhance the delivery of mental health services.
  • Engage in patient-facing activities for the majority of your working hours, focusing on direct care and interaction.
  • Adapt to the dynamic needs of the service and contribute to its ongoing development.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Qualified and registered Consultant Psychiatrist.
  • Section 12 Doctor Licence
  • Experience in managing acute mental health conditions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment.
  • Interest in service development and a commitment to improving patient outcomes.
