Job Summary:We are seeking a dedicated and reliable School Caretaker to ensure the smooth running of our school premises. The ideal candidate will take pride in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role involves carrying out general maintenance, security, and upkeep of the school grounds and buildings.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Site Maintenance:

    • Carry out routine inspections and maintenance of school premises, including minor repairs (e.g., plumbing, painting, carpentry).
    • Ensure classrooms, corridors, restrooms, and communal areas are clean, safe, and presentable.
    • Oversee the upkeep of outdoor spaces, including gardens, sports fields, and parking areas.
  2. Security:

    • Open and close the school buildings at the start and end of each day, ensuring the premises are secure.
    • Monitor the school for any unauthorized access or suspicious activity and report concerns to the relevant authorities.
    • Manage and maintain the school’s security systems, such as alarms and CCTV.
  3. Health & Safety:

    • Conduct regular checks to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
    • Respond promptly to hazards, spills, or incidents, ensuring the safety of students and staff.
    • Maintain fire safety equipment and ensure emergency exits are clear and functional.
  4. Facility Management:

    • Liaise with contractors and suppliers for larger repairs or maintenance tasks.
    • Manage heating, lighting, and ventilation systems to ensure a comfortable environment.
    • Oversee waste management and recycling efforts.
  5. General Duties:

    • Set up and take down furniture and equipment for school events, meetings, and activities.
    • Assist with deliveries, including unloading and distributing materials.
    • Maintain an inventory of cleaning supplies and order replacements when necessary.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Prior experience in a caretaking, facilities, or maintenance role is preferred.
  • Skills:
    • Practical skills in general repairs and maintenance.
    • Good understanding of health and safety regulations.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Personal Attributes:
    • Reliable, trustworthy, and proactive.
    • Friendly and approachable with good communication skills.
    • Physically fit and capable of manual labor.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical systems, or gardening.
  • Previous experience working in a school or similar environment.
