Are you passionate about advocating for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs? This Learning Support Assistant (LSA) role in Reading offers the perfect opportunity to build a foundation in Mental Health and SEN education, ideal for those aspiring to work in Criminal Justice, Youth Justice, or Social Justice.

About the Role:This is a chance to connect with and support students aged 4-18 in an Alternative Provision and Specialist SEN school. Many of the students face challenges such as ADHD, ADD, extreme anxiety, and complex social needs. The school’s philosophy, "Connect Before Content," focuses on building meaningful relationships with pupils to help them re-integrate into school and the wider community.

Your role will involve:

  • Building trust and rapport with students to support their emotional and academic development.
  • Advocating sincerely for SEMH children, understanding their successes and challenges through a clinical, pragmatic lens.
  • Working in classrooms with 4-12 students, depending on their emotional state and individual needs.
  • Supporting students with severe anxiety, low stress tolerance, and other associated needs.
  • Using restorative approaches to improve emotional regulation, engagement, and academic outcomes.
