Network Engineer
The role is hybrid- 3 days onsite, 2 days from home.
The role of the Network Engineer is to assist in the provision and operational support of services and contribute to a variety of capital projects across the business delivering network services.
The Infrastructure Team is responsible for the day-to-day management of a complex multi-vendor network estate and associated support services such as DNS, DHCP & IPMAN (DDI), RADIUS and Network Access Control (NAC). This role is responsible for troubleshooting network performance issues, analysing network traffic and providing capacity planning solutions and technical support and maintenance in support of these services.
Duties:
- Provide specialist expert technical support (e.g. installation, configuration and operation of edge and distribution layer devices) for the Infrastructure Team and help deliver complete network assurance to agreed SLAs.
- Perform day-to-day monitoring and management (e.g. plan, arrange and schedule with external stakeholders) the routine maintenance (e.g. cable patching and replacing network equipment in network cabinets across the estate, performing firmware and software updates) on network services to ensure they remain fit for purpose and able to meet the demands of users.
- Propose and develop service improvements, designing systems to maximise new capabilities, developing implementation plans and managing the implementation, communicating with external stakeholders to plan and organise work packages.
- Ensure that operational processes and facilities relating to network services are documented, maintained and reviewed regularly to maintain their effectiveness and efficiency.
- Work on network projects as well as BAU.
Experience sought-
- At least 2 years’ experience in networking.
- Working knowledge of cable specifications and applications
- Knowledge of network concepts and key networking protocols e.g. OSPF, STP, BGP, DHCP, TCP, IP.
- Switches, routers and firewall experience.
- LAN, WAN knowledge.
- Good understanding of network security and best practice
- Understanding of RF fundamentals of wireless networks
