Nuclear Material Control Technician

Location:RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £26,500 - £30,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

AWE is currently recruiting for a Nuclear Material Control Technician in our Nuclear Materials Control team working within our Operations function.

As a Nuclear Material Control Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring all processing, movements and storage of Nuclear Materials are carried out in accordance with procedures, Assist the Accountable Nuclear Materials Inventory Holder with duties in accordance with the Nuclear Material Accountancy & Control manual, Comply with and promote high personal standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality, Operate Nuclear Materials accountancy systems, assist with the production of key accountancy related reports Prepared to undertake shift work if required.

We'd like you to have experience in some of the following:

  • Good organisational, written, and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work in operational, controlled high hazard and highly regulated environments
  • A high level of standard education in Maths and English, minimum GCSE grade C/4 or equivalent
  • Ability to work methodically to prescriptive instructions, with a high level of attention to detail
  • Basic understanding of MS Office applications including Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety practice
  • Ability to work both as part of a team and independently

  • Knowledge of Inventory Control, storage, handling and movement of Radioactive/Hazardous Materials
  • Knowledge of radiological and criticality safety hazard management
  • Experience of working within an engineering or manufacturing environment

Important things you need to know:

  • You will need to obtain and maintain the necessary security clearance for the role. This will be funded by AWE. The nature of our work does mean you need to be a British Citizen who has been resident in the UK for the past 5 years in order to apply for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.

Due to the nature of the work involved, there are limited opportunities to work from home in this role. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will spend the majority of their time working on site at AWE Aldermaston.Typically 4 days onsite per week.
