Position: Planning Engineer
Location: Hybrid (Based in Reading, UK)
Contract role

Are you an experienced Planning Engineer with a proven track record in project planning and schedule management? Do you have strong expertise in schedule interrogation and reporting? If so, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our team, working on a high-profile project for the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE). This hybrid role offers a mix of remote working with some on-site presence in Reading, giving you the flexibility to achieve work-life balance while being part of a critical national security project.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and manage complex project schedules for AWE-related activities.
  • Conduct detailed schedule interrogations to ensure projects remain on track and identify potential risks and delays.
  • Produce high-quality schedule reports, presenting clear and concise information to senior management and key stakeholders.
  • Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams to integrate schedules, monitor progress, and ensure alignment with project objectives.
  • Provide strategic advice and recommendations based on schedule analysis to facilitate effective decision-making.

Essential Requirements:

  • Security Clearance: Candidates must have valid and in-date SC (Security Clearance) to be considered for this role. Given the sensitive nature of AWE projects, UK citizenship is required
  • Significant Planning Experience: Demonstrable experience in planning roles, ideally within highly regulated or defence environments, with proficiency in schedule interrogation and analysis.
  • Stakeholder Management: Ability to effectively communicate complex project details to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment across the project lifecycle.
  • Proficient in the use of industry-standard planning software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.

Desirable Skills:

  • Previous experience working on defence or nuclear sector projects, especially AWE.
  • Strong analytical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and ability to manage multiple tasks in a high-pressure environment.

Why Security Clearance Matters
Due to the sensitive nature of AWE projects, having an in-date Security Clearance (SC) is not only essential but critical to the role. This clearance ensures that you are authorized to access restricted areas, data, and information necessary to complete the project safely and securely. Without valid clearance, your ability to work effectively in this environment will be compromised.

Hybrid Working
This role is based in Reading and offers a hybrid working model, providing flexibility to work from home part-time, alongside the necessary on-site presence to ensure project delivery and collaboration.
