Senior Paralegal - Special Educational Needs

Location: Reading (Hybrid - 2 days in the office)Job Type: Permanent | Full-time or Part-time (4 or 5 days per week)

We are partnering with a highly regarded law firm, ranked in The Legal 500 and Chambers and Partners, to recruit an experienced Senior Paralegal to join their Special Educational Needs (SEN) team. This is an exciting opportunity for a legal professional looking to take the next step in their career within a firm known for its supportive culture, career progression opportunities, and flexible hybrid working.

The Role:

As a Senior Paralegal, you will play a key role in supporting the SEN team by managing casework, liaising with clients and external parties, and assisting with appeals and legal documentation. This position offers the chance to work alongside experienced legal professionals while enjoying autonomy, variety, and direct client interaction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Case Management: Oversee new client enquiries, finances, budgets, and expert fees.
  • Legal Administration: Maintain client records, draft court documents (Grounds of Appeal, EHCP-related materials), and prepare case bundles.
  • Client & Stakeholder Communication: Liaise with clients, schools, local authorities, and the Tribunal on behalf of senior fee earners.
  • Expert Coordination: Research, contact, and arrange expert assessments.
  • Appeals & Tribunal Work: Assist with post-registration appeal steps and draft instructions to legal experts.
  • Marketing & Business Development: Support the firm’s marketing initiatives by attending events and contributing legal content for the website.

About You:

We are looking for a proactive, detail-oriented, and client-focused legal professional with:

  • Experience in a legal setting, preferably within SEN law.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently while following firm protocols.
  • Excellent client service skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (including Excel) and legal databases.
