The Energy Division at ARM are currently recruiting an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a leading Nuclear Defence company based in Reading.

Job Overview:

Provide mechanical designs for the Facility Design Authority (FDA) such that utilities, infrastructure, engineering processes, equipment and facilities are compliant with legislation, standards and requirements associated with engineering design throughout the facility lifecycle.

  • Deliver mechanical designs that meet safety and performance requirements.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of relevant legislative documentation / standards associated with mechanical design engineering.

Some of your duties will include:

  • Ensure the design intent is maintained throughout the lifecycle, liaising with other discipline areas to ensure overall design intent is maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with Company Assurance Environment, Safety, Health and Quality (ESH&Q) and statutory requirements.
  • Ensure application of standards is proportionate and that engineering best practice is adopted.
  • Elevate areas of concern to the relevant Principal Engineer.

What do you need to succeed?

  • ONC / OND or equivalent in mechanical engineering or other related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of legislation and standards applicable to mechanical engineering design.
  • Competent in standard office software, and engineering tools and applications.
  • Producing mechanical designs as part of a multi-discipline design team.
  • Experience of working in a highly regulated environment (preferably nuclear and / or explosives).
