About the Role:
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Commercial Property Partner with at least 8+ years’ PQE to join the Reading office of a well-established, highly regarded law firm. This role is particularly suited for someone with extensive experience advising housebuilders on a wide range of commercial property matters, including development land acquisitions, plot sales and securing finance for projects.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transaction Management: Lead and manage a variety of commercial property transactions, focusing on development work for housebuilders, including freehold and leasehold sales and acquisitions
- Drafting & Negotiating Agreements: Proven experience in drafting and negotiating option agreements, conditional contracts, promotion agreements, S106 agreements, infrastructure agreements and related deeds and documents specific to residential development
- Due Diligence & Reporting: Conduct thorough due diligence on development projects, ensuring all legal, financial and commercial risks are assessed
- Provide clear, detailed reporting to clients on findings and risks
- Plot Sales & Development Finance: Experience overseeing commercial or residential plot sales and handling secured acquisition and development finance transactions
- Client Relationships: Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with housebuilder clients, providing expert legal advice and delivering high levels of client care
- Team Collaboration: Work collaboratively with senior management and partners to set the strategic agenda for the department, while working as part of a high-performing team to achieve the firm’s goals
- Commercial Focus: Provide commercially driven advice, ensuring the firm’s and client’s interests are met in the most efficient and effective way possible
Key Requirements:
- PQE: At least 8 years of post-qualification experience in commercial property law, with a focus on residential development
- Expertise: Proven experience in drafting and negotiating complex property agreements, particularly for housebuilders, including option agreements, conditional contracts, promotion agreements and S106 agreements
- Due Diligence & Reporting: Strong ability to undertake due diligence on development projects and provide detailed reports that clearly highlight risks and opportunities
- Finance Transactions: Experience in handling secured acquisition and development finance transactions is essential
- Plot Sales Experience: Experience in overseeing commercial or residential plot sales is highly desirable
- Client-Care & Leadership: Demonstrated ability to provide exceptional client service and take a leadership role within the department
