Job Description:We are seeking a passionate and qualified Food Technology Teacher to join our vibrant and well-established Girls' Secondary School in Reading, Berkshire. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality food technology lessons that inspire and engage students from Key Stage 3 to Key Stage 4, preparing them for exams and equipping them with essential life skills.

This is a permanent, full-time role, ideal for an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher with a strong knowledge of food technology and a commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching and learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Food Technology lessons in line with the national curriculum.
  • Teach students practical food preparation skills, nutrition, health, safety, and hygiene.
  • Monitor and assess students' progress, providing constructive feedback and differentiated support.
  • Prepare students for coursework and examinations, ensuring they achieve their full potential.
  • Manage classroom behavior in accordance with the school's policies and create a safe, inclusive learning environment.
  • Organize and maintain equipment and materials in the food technology room, ensuring health and safety regulations are followed.
  • Contribute to the development of the Food Technology curriculum and participate in department meetings.
  • Provide pastoral care and support for students, fostering a positive and supportive learning atmosphere.
  • Work closely with colleagues, parents, and guardians to support student progress.
  • Participate in extracurricular activities, including food-related clubs or events, to enrich the school experience.

Requirements:

  • A qualified teacher status (QTS) or equivalent, specializing in Food Technology or Design Technology with a food specialism.
  • A minimum of 6 months' experience teaching in a UK secondary school.
  • Proven experience of teaching Food Technology at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 levels.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK National Curriculum for Food Technology.
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • The ability to create a stimulating and inclusive learning environment.
  • Full right to work in the UK.

Desirable:

  • Experience teaching in a single-sex (girls') school environment.
  • Proven track record of successfully preparing students for GCSEs or other relevant qualifications in Food Technology.
  • Experience in leading or participating in extracurricular food-related activities.
