We are looking for an inspirational Teaching Assistant to support a pupil with SEMH in school in Reading. Teaching Assistants are a vital part of a pupil’s ability to make the best of school and our pupil is no different.

Pay: £60 per half day

Working hours: 12:45 until the end of the school day. Monday - Friday

About the role

We are looking for a skilled and patient Teaching Assistant to support our ASEND Tutor in afternoon sessions with a 7-year-old boy with Autism and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs in his school. He has Speech and Language difficulties and struggles with flexibility of thought, often engaging in restricted, repetitive play. Our student is a lovely, happy, and playful child with a great sense of humour. He enjoys role-playing, buses, cars, superheroes, dinosaurs, animals, zoo webcams, and playing on his tablet.

He sometimes becomes anxious and upset and needs a calm, skilled adult to help him refocus, regulate, and feel supported. To help with this ideal candidate will be able to build a calm and nurturing environment, trusting relationship, engage him in his interests, and provide consistent, supportive interventions to help him thrive in a structured school environment.

About you:

  • You’ll have some experience with SEN: Autism, SEMH, Speech and Language difficulties

  • You may be an experienced Teaching Assistant or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way

  • You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement

  • You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan

  • Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning

  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils

  • Use a person-centred approach in their work

  • Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do

  • Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
