What ASEND Tuition Is

We are looking for inspirational tutors to support children and young people with SEND in Reading. We support pupils with SEND who are not attending school for a number of reasons including Mental Health issues, or lack of a suitable school place. We aim to prepare them for a return to mainstream or special school.

About the role

We are looking for a tutor to support a 14-year-old boy in Reading with his academics. Our pupil faces some difficulties with inattention and finds noisy classroom environments difficult to concentrate in. He has some communication difficulties as he sometimes finds it difficult to identify the right words to convey what he needs/wants. He highly values his relationships with his family and friends and is an avid gamer as he likes to play on the Xbox. He enjoys food technology lessons and likes to talk about topics he’s interested in.

The ideal tutor for this pupil would be someone who is fun and engaging to make learning more enjoyable to ultimately help him advance in his education. Our pupil sometimes finds it difficult to work in groups, so a tutor who is able to guide him on social skills and teamwork would be a great bonus. Experience in working with pupils with Autism and ADHD would be beneficial.

About you:

  • You’ll have some experience with SEN: SEMH, ADHD

  • You’ll have experience helping pupil progress in their academic learning

  • You may be an experienced tutor or teacher or have experience working with children in a therapeutic way

  • You’ll have a passion for helping pupils overcome any barriers to learning and difficulties with engagement

  • You’ll be good at building rapport and strong relationships with children and their families - we work closely with families to create a plan

  • Ideally, have some experience of helping children with their learning

  • Have the ability to motivate and inspire pupils

  • Use a person-centred approach in their work

  • Make the wellbeing, achievement, and progress of your pupils central to everything that you plan and do

  • Have the determination and energy to bring about continuous improvement.
