My client, a dynamic and highly regarded design practice, is actively seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Planning/Urban Design Assistant to join their team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on residential development projects, supporting the design team and gaining valuable experience in urban design and planning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Researching and analysing local and national policies related to residential development, and providing clear summaries for the design team and clients.
  • Conducting neighbourhood characterisation studies and defining site parameters to guide the design process.
  • Collaborating with clients to understand their needs and aspirations for each project.
  • Assisting in preparing pre-application submissions and design proposals.
  • Supporting the development of the Design and Access Statement.
  • Preparing supporting materials, such as briefing documents, presentations, addendums, and materials for public consultation.

Key Requirements:

  • Strong research skills with the ability to summarise local planning policies and guidance.
  • Excellent written communication, with a solid understanding of urban design terminology.
  • Proficiency in InDesign to support document preparation, incorporating basic graphics and layouts.
  • A proactive attitude, with a keen interest in developing skills in design software, particularly Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with design teams and clients to meet project objectives.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Unreal is advantageous but not essential.

Training and Development:

  • Over time, you'll gain expertise in InDesign and the Adobe Suite, and take on a more active role in design principles for new developments.
  • Ongoing training will enhance your skills in graphics creation and presentation materials.
  • The role offers significant growth potential within a supportive and collaborative team environment.

This full-time position is initially office-based, with the possibility of remote working after the first 6-9 months. The salary is £23k - £28k, depending on experience.
