We are currently seeking a Planning Enforcement Officer to investigate and enforce planning controls within the borough. This role is essential in ensuring developments comply with regulations, resolving breaches, and upholding planning policies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate alleged breaches of planning control, including site inspections, surveys, and surveillance.
  • Research site histories and accurately record all findings on the planning enforcement system.
  • Handle enquiries from the public, councillors, businesses, and external organisations regarding planning enforcement.
  • Negotiate with transgressors and complainants to resolve planning control breaches in line with council policies.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations for enforcement action
General Responsibilities
  • Comply with the Council’s Health & Safety policies and undertake relevant training.
  • Participate in training, development programs, and performance appraisals.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all council-related information.
  • Promote equality, diversity, and inclusivity in all aspects of work.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with the role.
  • Provide a high standard of customer service.
  • Ensure value for money in service delivery.
  • Maintain high standards of data quality and accuracy.
  • Promote the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, recognizing safeguarding as a shared responsibility.
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in planning enforcement or a related field.
  • Strong investigative and problem-solving skills.
  • Knowledge of planning laws and enforcement procedures.
  • Ability to interpret and apply regulations effectively.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team.
