Development Chemist - FMCG - Birmingham

We are looking for Development Chemist for a market leading company south of Birmingham who are working with global high street brands. This is highly respected company in the industry who are known for progressing their staff with excellent learning and development opportunities. The successful Development Chemist would ideally come from a laundry, detergents, household cleaning or related FMCG products, or in personal care / cosmetics background. However, we will look at Developments Chemists from different sectors with transferable experience.

Ideal requirements:

  • Degree educated in chemistry or relevant scientific subject
  • Household / personal care industry experience is preferred but will look at transferable industry experience
  • Working knowledge of surfactants and raw material functionality would be ideal
  • Familiar with analytical techniques would be a plus
  • Regulatory understanding / Product development experience would be highly desirable
  • Full rights to work in the UK is a a must as the client is unable to sponsor

Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the development of NPD pipeline
  • Keeping up to date with market developments / spotting / following market trends
  • Researching raw materials
  • Ensuring products are safe and conform to legal / customer requirements
  • Supporting project management
  • Collaborating with QC, Production as well as ither internal teams
  • Presenting to internal stakeholders
  • Ensuring all products are able to be scaled up to production batch sizes
  • Supporting the mixing staff / blending teams        
  • Provide action plans for continuous product and process improvement.
  • Regularly review formulation costs setting this in context with external benchmark product
  • Spotting and following market trends
