An establishedmanufacturer of bespokeparts, components and assemblies for various industry sectors including automotive, defence and medical are seeking to recruit a Prototype Engineer / Modelmaker.
The company areenjoying strong growth and sales and as a result are seeking to strengthen their operations.
Reporting to the Commercial Director- the main purpose of the Prototype Engineer role is to be responsible for the build of prototype parts and jigs for pre-production. Design and build test evaluation rigs, run test programs and generate written reporting on the findings. To support the Engineering team with any pre-production requirements.
Key responsibilities and duties of the role would be;
- Takes a deign brief and turns it into a practical working item
- Creation of prototypes, prototype / production fixtures with checking aids
- Design and manufacture of life cycle testing apparatus, reporting any issue orfailure
- To challenge any unworkable aspects / failures and come up with solutions to the problem
- To detail any possible theories regarding why failure / faults may have happened
- Use of air ramps, hydraulic assisted rigs, basic electronic components and many other tools and methods to deliver solutions
- Supporting the engineering team with 3D prototype printing and scanning
I would be keen to receive your application if you are a Modelmaker / Prototype Technician whoholds the following skills and expertise;
- Must be safely able to operate all manual drilling, milling, grinding machines and lathes
- An experiencedmodel maker or prototype engineer
- Advantageous to hold an apprenticeship or a relevant City & Guilds or equivalent
- Pneumatics knowledge
- Able to set and operate hand presses and punches
- Practical experience of CNC machinery is advantageous but not essential
- Able to read engineering drawings / CAD models
- An understanding of metals, plastics and component tolerancing including tolerance stack on multiple components and assemblies
- A positive attitude
- Think outside of the box
- Good computer skills such as Microsoft Office
The role is Days - 5 days a week (Monday to Thursday 8am to 5pm, Friday 8am to 1pm)
The company are based in Redditch so are easily commutable from Birmingham, Solihull, Worcester, Droitwich, Dudley, Bromsgrove, Alcester, Stratford upon Avon, Studley, Henley in Arden.
