Job Title: Mechanical Fitter

Salary: £26,000 - £28,000

Location: Horley

Hours: 39 Hour week (8-4.30 Mon-Thu, 8-4 Fri - Half hour lunch Mon-Thu, 1 hour lunch on Fri)

Key Responsibilities and Duties:

• Assemble and Build Equipment: Mechanically assemble and construct material testing machines, mechanical and pneumatic grips, and other precision instruments, including fitting wiring looms and electronic displays.
• Use of Tools & Equipment: Operate pillar drills, hand tools, reamers, taps, and other relevant tool room equipment with competence.
• Documentation & Compliance: Complete all necessary paperwork, including employment records, timesheets, and work orders.
• Tool Maintenance & Organisation: Ensure all tools and equipment are well-maintained and stored properly.
• Stock Management: Assist with the annual stock count to maintain inventory accuracy.
• Workplace Cleanliness: Keep the workstation and surrounding area clean and organised to maintain a safe working environment.
• Collaboration & Communication: Work closely with department managers and team members, maintaining professional and polite communication while assisting colleagues as needed.
• Meet or Exceed Targets: Strive to achieve or surpass targets set by the departmental supervisor.
• Progress & Issue Reporting: Provide regular updates on completed work and promptly report any issues to the supervisor.
• Parts Preparation & Assembly: Gather, fit, and modify parts as needed to ensure equipment is fully prepared for testing.
• Drawing Updates & Records: Notify the supervisor of any required changes to drawings, ensuring accurate and up-to-date records are maintained.
• Quality Control: Monitor and inspect the quality of fitted products.
• Health & Safety: Ensure adherence to company safety procedures.
• Compliance: Follow all company systems and procedures.
• Additional Duties: Perform any other reasonable tasks as required to support business operations.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

• Strong Mechanical Engineering background with hands-on experience.
• NVQ / HNC / HND in Mechanical Engineering or other relevant discipline.
• Precision assembly skills in a machine build environment with close tolerances.
• Proficiency in precision measuring tools such as micrometres and verniers.
• Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings, including general assemblies, manuals, and geometric tolerances.
• Skilled in operating hand & machine tools effectively.
• Verifiable experience with references confirming previous roles.
• Knowledge of Health & Safety regulations and best practices.
