  • Leading and supervising a team of maintenance staff and porters, providing direction and ensuring high-quality work in all aspects of building maintenance, including plumbing, carpentry, painting, and decorating.
  • Overseeing the completion of building repairs and maintenance, ensuring tasks are completed to the highest standards and within set timeframes. Delegating tasks appropriately to team members for efficient operations
  • Ensuring that the team undertakes risk assessments before starting any maintenance work and enforces safe systems of work at all times. Monitoring adherence to safety regulations and best practices.
  • Acting as the main point of contact for emergency maintenance situations, overseeing out-of-hours callouts, and coordinating the team for a rapid response. Ensuring timely resolution of issues to minimise disruption.
  • Using the SharePoint helpdesk system to monitor, prioritise, and complete Facilities requests, ensuring they are addressed efficiently and accurately. Ensuring team members follow up on open requests as needed.
  • Reporting defects, vandalism, and other maintenance issues to the Facilities Manager and supervising the team to ensure repairs are completed safely and to standard. Ensuring issues are addressed promptly.
  • Managing and supervising contractors on-site, ensuring they follow safety guidelines, meet quality expectations, and complete tasks on time. Monitoring their work to maintain high standards of performance and safety.
  • Overseeing the operation and maintenance of heating, ventilation, BMS (Building Management System), fire panel, and security alarm panel systems. Ensuring these systems are regularly checked and maintained for proper functionality.
  • Ensuring the cleanliness and safety of all exterior hard surface areas internal cleaning tasks, including graffiti removal, ensuring high standards of cleanliness across the facility.
  • Responding to and supervising the handling of emergencies such as burst pipes, leaks, fires, breakages, and spillages, ensuring quick resolution and safety protocols are followed. Taking the lead in critical situations.
  • Conducting regular inspections of building systems and service appliances, such as light fittings, pipes, and clocks. Identifying and reporting any issues for repair and ensuring follow-up actions are taken promptly.
  • Overseeing and supporting the team in completing college's Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) tasks, ensuring all PPM schedules are adhered to, and equipment/systems are maintained to optimal standards.
  • Supporting the control and monitoring of external contractors, ensuring correct identification and deployment for specific tasks. Ensuring contractors are properly supervised and their work is in line with required standards.
  • Overseeing the maintenance of college estate equipment, ensuring it is well-maintained and in good working order. Ensuring regular checks and servicing are carried out as required.
  • Ensuring compliance with Health & Safety legislation by completing and understanding RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and ensuring the team follows safety regulations and statutory duties.
  • Conducting regular safety audits and reporting any concerns to the Facilities Manager.
