Systems Engineer

Main Purpose of JobThe Enterprise Engineering team are responsible for a variety of services offered to our customers. These include:Bespoke hardware/software developments to provide customers with the ability to better manage their remote site traffic, and user experience.Meeting with external customers to design on-board vessel and land networks for fleets and remote sites, including bespoke designs, virtualisation, High Availability, traffic prioritisation, integration into existing infrastructure, and ongoing support.Finding off the shelf products/developing in-house products/system design and integration to best suit the needs of our business and our clients, testing/evaluating updates/releases, and adding them into our Product PortfolioThe design and management of our global VSAT, Starlink, OneWeb, LTE, & PoP infrastructure and Customer networks, including requirements capture, traffic shaping, traffic acceleration, VoIP and systems managementThis role is to assist in the system engineering processes within the team. Using bespoke and open-source software, primarily Linux based to bring additional value to our in-house and customer solutions.Who we are:Our client is a leading and growing provider of Satellite Communications and IT Support to the Government and Maritime markets. Headquartered in the UK, the company has a global footprint with key offices located across Germany, Denmark, Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Singapore, Japan and the United States.Key TasksTo act as in-house Product expert on selected systems and application, keeping abreast of new developments in the IT & Communications industry applicable to our clients markets.To provide accurate and timely technical information or analyses on a variety of engineering investigations.As part of a team to support the design, requirement capture and development of the suite of company value added services.To produce and maintain detailed technical documentation relating to the new solutions/developments and to work with the Product Management team on ensuring that any new developments are rolled out effectively across the organization.Where required to support the Product Management team and / or the Account Managers in dealings with customers on engineering issues, attend meetings and conduct demonstrations in support of Sales.To own, investigate and resolve escalated engineering service issues.If required to participate in a DVB Support Engineer shift rotaLead by example to develop and maintain personal technical expertise in company bespoke products and security best practiseExperience/Skills/QualificationsQualifications:Degree (2:1) or HND/HNC in IT/Programming/Engineering related area AND/OR at least 3 years equivalent experienceMandatory:A professional and flexible approachProactive "can do" attitudeAnalytical mindsetAbility to work effectively as part of a team, and independently on your own projectsAbility to diagnose complex faults, document, communicate and follow up corrective actionsGood knowledge of TCP/IP networking concepts including Routing, Switching, Firewalling, including Layer 7 firewallsLinux (CentOS/Ubuntu, Apache, MySQL)DesirableProject planning and delivery experienceAsterisk/VoIP platformsWindows Server and VMware intermediate level experienceHardware and/or software systems development and design experienceProgramming knowledge - Scripting (Bash, Perl)Working knowledge of satellite networks and infrastructure, firewalls and traffic shaping experience.Most Difficult Part of JobCompleting Systems Engineering Development and Project work to demanding timescales.Dealing professionally and flexibly with customers and suppliers.Keeping current with the rapid developments in communications and IT.
