Freelance Building Surveyor

We are seeking a dedicated Freelance Building Surveyor to join our Clients Property and Maintenance team on either a full time a part time basis, 3 days a week. This role involves undertaking building surveys, managing development projects, and ensuring our Clients properties meet environmental and sustainability targets. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in building surveying, project management, and a commitment to creating efficient and sustainable living spaces.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Conduct building surveys for both new and existing properties to inform decisions, appraisals, and maintenance plans.
  • Project manage development, extension, and refurbishment projects, ensuring they are delivered on schedule and within budget.
  • Liaise with architects, contractors, and suppliers, providing technical guidance and managing the tender process.
  • Prepare specifications and schedules of works for tender, and manage projects from progress to completion.
  • Offer defect diagnosis and undertake a range of property surveys.
  • Support the organisation in meeting its environmental and sustainability goals, including net zero targets for housing stock.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Building Surveying or a related field.
  • Experience in managing building maintenance and capital building work contracts.
  • Proficient in stock condition surveys and property maintenance (planned/cyclical/reactive).
  • Comprehensive understanding of statutory and legal regulations including planning legislation, Health and Safety, and Fire Safety.
  • Strong project management skills with a proven ability to negotiate and achieve value for money.
  • Excellent design sense to create modern, accessible, and comfortable homes.
  • Financial awareness with the ability to manage budgets.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant IT systems.
  • Car driver with access to own vehicle.
