Overview:

We are looking for a dedicated Datacomms Engineer to join our team, specializing in data communications for MOD/Government systems. This role involves supporting the entire project lifecycle, from design and installation to testing and maintenance, with a focus on satellite communication and network systems. The position requires global travel and availability at short notice.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Install and Commission Systems: Perform installation, configuration, and commissioning of data communication systems, including routers, switches, and satellite terminals, for MOD/Government projects worldwide.
  • Support Project Lifecycle: Assist in all phases of MOD Systems Engineering projects, including design, prototyping, building, installation, integration, and testing, ensuring compliance with technical specifications and project requirements.
  • Conduct Testing and Verification: Verify design solutions through structured testing and troubleshooting, providing feedback and recommendations for improvements.
  • Technical Support and Training: Provide on-site technical support and training to engineers and end-users on bespoke solutions and satellite communication systems.
  • System Administration: Perform system administration tasks, including the configuration and maintenance of secure communication networks.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including installation guides, testing protocols, and system configurations.
  • Product Evaluation: Evaluate new products and services in line with company strategy, supporting the development and enhancement of existing solutions.
  • Customer Demonstrations: Set up and demonstrate complex satellite and data communication systems to meet specific customer needs.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with internal departments, customers, and external agencies to ensure project goals are met and issues are resolved promptly.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • Technical Expertise: Proven experience with Satcom terminals (DVB, Inmarsat) and broad knowledge of IT and network installation.
  • Security Clearance: Must hold or be eligible to obtain DV (Developed Vetting) Security Clearance.
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise effectively with customers, internal teams, and stakeholders.
  • Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and make independent decisions in the field.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Ability to work flexibly, including short-notice travel and responding to changing project priorities.
  • Project Experience: Experience supporting the lifecycle of engineering projects, including installation, testing, integration, and documentation.
  • Professional Qualifications: NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification in a related field is desirable; professional registration is advantageous.
  • Additional Skills: Understanding of cryptographic equipment and its use in secure communications, along with good administration and time management skills.

  • The candidate must be prepared to travel globally and respond to urgent requirements.
