Datacomms Engineer

About My Client:My client is a trusted leader in providing cutting-edge communication solutions to MoD and government clients. They are seeking a skilled Datacomms Engineer to join their team and play a vital role in delivering, installing, and supporting complex data communication systems globally.

Main Purpose of the Role:As a Datacomms Engineer, you will bring expert knowledge in data communications, working on a wide range of systems from simple email applications to advanced network infrastructures involving routers, switches, and cryptographic equipment. You will be responsible for installing and commissioning systems worldwide, often at short notice, and providing both technical support and training to engineers and customers. This role also requires you to support the full lifecycle of MoD/Government systems engineering projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, commission, and maintain MoD/Government communication systems worldwide.
  • Provide technical support for the evaluation and testing of new or repaired systems.
  • Lead field installations, including set-up and demonstration of satellite communication systems tailored to customer needs.
  • Assist in the design, prototyping, build, and testing of systems, ensuring they meet project specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve escalated faults from the projects office.
  • Provide training to engineers and customers on bespoke solutions and systems.
  • Collaborate with management and marketing teams on product demonstrations and technical aspects of marketing initiatives.
  • Understand and implement cryptographic equipment within data communication systems.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience Required:

  • Hands-on experience with satellite communication terminals (DVB/Inmarsat).
  • Broad IT and networking skills, with knowledge of network installation and configuration.
  • NVQ Level 4 or equivalent qualification desirable.
  • Excellent communication and time management skills.
  • Flexible and proactive, with the ability to travel worldwide at short notice.
  • Familiarity with MoD systems and requirements is essential.
  • Must hold, or be able to achieve, DV Security Clearance.
  • Professional registration desirable.
