The Teaching Assistant will be responsible for supporting the children at our school and is expected to inspire, excite, and nurture every child in their care.Additional 1:1 RoleThis particular post will also involve providing 1:1 support to a student who is deaf. The role is ideal for someone passionate about helping children overcome communication barriers to succeed academically and socially.As a SEND Teaching Assistant, your responsibilities will include:• Providing personalised 1:1 support to a pupil who is deaf, assisting them in accessing the curriculum and participating in classroom activities.• Implementing tailored communication strategies, including the use of sign language or other relevant tools, to facilitate effective learning and interaction.• Collaborating closely with teaching staff and external professionals to develop and implement Individual Education Plans (IEPs) that meet the student’s specific needs.• Monitoring the student’s progress, adapting support strategies as necessary, and ensuring their well-being and inclusion within the school community.• Supporting the development of the student’s social, emotional, and academic skills, fostering their confidence and independence.The candidate will accompany the child to all lessons and events, ensuring access to lesson content and offering advice to staff on amending lessons to be fully inclusive for a deaf child. The role also requires a high level of emotional and pastoral support, so a person with empathy and the ability to understand and support the child’s experience and difficulties is essential.Being able to use British Sign Language (BSL) is desirable.
